Unknown encysted parasite inside the brood chamber of the female cladocera Evadne nordmanii.

  • The images below were taken on February 10, 2005.
  • The top image is of a normal uninfected female cladoceran with an egg cluster visible inside the body.
  • The second image is of a female cladoceran whos eggs have hatched. This animal must have been fixed right before the juveniles were released.
  • The third image is of a parasitized female cladoceran. Notice the thickness of the cyst wall and the relative size of the cyst in proportion to the size of the host. This is a HUGE cyst.
